80% of MasterCard Credit Cards Have Chip and other Digital Transactions News briefs

Processor Fiserv Inc. will market Early Warning LLC’s clearXchange person-to-person real-time payments network to its financial-institution clients under a new agreement. The deal follows a similar arrangement the companies reached last year for real-time bill payments and deposits. Fiserv also said adjusted second-quarter revenues in its payments segment increased nearly 11% year over year to $693 million.

MasterCard Inc. announced that 80% of its U.S. consumer credit cards are now EMV chip cards, up 88% since the Oct. 1 liability shift. Meanwhile, MasterCard’s network reports it detects 1.7 million “chip-active” U.S. merchant locations, or almost 30% of all locations and a 374% increase since Oct. 1. MasterCard also said New Seasons Market, with 19 West Coast stores, is one of the first merchants to adopt its M/Chip Fast technology for swifter EMV transactions.

In related news, Visa Inc. said New Leaf Community markets, a chain of seven grocery stores in Northern California, is the first merchant to deploy its Quick Chip technology, Visa’s faster EMV transaction technology.

Ordering, entertainment, and pay-at-table tablet provider TableTop Media, which does business as Ziosk, said it teamed up with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s Samsung Pay mobile-payment service to offer customers of Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews, Friendly’s, and Uno Pizzeria & Grill savings of $5 off bills of $10 or more when they use Samsung Pay to pay at a Ziosk tablet.

Payments provider Total Merchant Services Inc. announced the Groovv POS, a tablet-based point-of-sale system available in a countertop, all-in-one 13-inch screen version and a mobile version based on a Samsung Galaxy E 9.6-inch tablet. TMS initially debuted its Groovv service in 2015 as a traditional POS terminal. Groovv POS is EMV compliant and near-field communication (NFC) enabled.

Cubic Transportation Systems, a unit of Cubic Corp., said the Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works awarded the company a $33 million contract to upgrade its EASY card system so it can accept contactless bank card and NFC payments for transit ticket payments.

Visa Inc.’s CyberSource e-commerce security unit introduced a loyalty fraud-management service to help businesses guard against illicit use of loyalty accounts, including theft of points and miles.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions has worked with Elliptic, a blockchain-intelligence company, to expose the identities of money launderers, terrorists, and other illicit users of the Bitcoin digital currency.
