- The SWIFT international payments network announced two tests it has completed have shown that central bank digital currencies and other tokenized assets can be handled without incident on existing processing technology.
- In related news, the fintech CryptoBucks said its CrytoBucks Wallet is available for download from the App Store and Google Play. The wallet allows users to buy, sell, and trade cryptocurrencies and link to an existing bank account or credit or debit card.
- The international standards body EMVCo has released its EMV Contactless Kernel Specification to help support contactless and mobile transactions. A kernel is software that allows payment devices to accept transactions.
- Check usage in North American business-to-business transactions has reached an all-time low, at 33% of payments, according to the 2022 AFP Digital Payments Survey. That proportion has fallen 9 points since 2019, the study says.
- A majority—56%—of consumers expect fraud attempts to increase, found the Fifth Annual Consumer Digital Identity Study from IDology, an identity verification and fraud deterrence enterprise. The survey included responses from 2,054 consumers.
- Payments provider Priority Technology Holdings Inc. said it is working with payments-terminal maker PAX Technology Inc. to offer PAX’s card-acceptance and terminal technology to merchants.
- Payments provider Green Payment Processing Corp. said it is incorporating fingerprint-recognition technology from OVE Touch & Go. The technology links a user’s fingerprint to his or her payment methods.
- SpotOn, a payments-technology provider specializing in restaurants, launched SpotOn Teamwork, a collection of management technologies linked to the point of sale, including employee scheduling and payroll.
- Kansas-based Euronet Worldwide, which operates ATMs and point-of-sale terminals in 63 countries, is expanding into Southeast Asia with ATMs in the Philippines.
- MoneyGram International Inc. has taken an approximate 12% stake in Jingle Pay, a financial app based in the United Arab Emirates, and said it will support money transfers through the app.
- Safenetpay, a U.K.-based payments processor, has changed its name to Moneff.
