Mobile Fuel Service EzFill Adds a One-Time Payment Service

EzFill Holdings Inc.’s specialty is sending one of its mobile fuel trucks to a driver’s location, thus eliminating the hassle to the driver of having to get to a gas station to fill up the car or a fleet of vehicles. Now, EzFill has launched a new one-time payment service in addition to the in-app stored-payment method.

Miami-based EzFill, which went public in 2021, is an on-demand fuel-delivery service. It will send a fuel truck to top off a user’s gas tank, whether it’s a crossover or a fleet of vehicles used for commercial purposes. Users select the service they want—fuel selections consist of regular and premium unleaded, diesel, red dye diesel, and marine—and indicate their location in the EzFill app. The user leaves the fuel door ajar and the EzFill attendant fills the tank and closes the door once done. The user receives a text indicating the service was completed. Payment is made using a card stored in the user’s EzFill app.

This new service, however, moves the payment to a Web-based link that EzFill says is a simpler way to pay without requiring the app. It intends to use the service as part of a marketing push that leverages the trend toward pop-up stores. Customers at these EzFill pop-up locations can fuel and then receive a link to click and complete the payment. They fill in first and last name, email, make and model of the vehicle, and the card information, an EzFill spokesperson says. The card is preauthorized, the information validated the technician is notified it is OK to complete the fill up. Once done, an automatically generated receipt is sent via text or email. “The payment system will give customers the ability to pay without going through the process of signing up for the app,” the spokesperson says. The average ticket is $50.

“Business owners, property managers, and even residential customers will have the ability to book EzFill trucks for private events such as holiday parties and marketing events,” EzFill says.

Having held one pop-up event already, EzFill plans others at three parking lots in downtown Miami. With pop-up stores of all types a part of the U.S. economy, EzFill says its service fits right in. Currently, EzFill is available in Florida, with expansion to Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and New York anticipated through 2023.

“We believe that our pop-up stations will be a cost-effective opportunity for us to get our brand in front of the actual fuel purchasers, in a way that highlights the convenience and efficiency of the EzFill service,” Mike McConnell, EzFill chief executive, said in a statement. “The simplified payment system will be seamless and hassle-free, illustrating the cutting-edge nature of EzFill’s user technology.”

In a November investor presentation, EzFill said it has gained 85 commercial accounts since its September 2021 initial public offering. Among consumers its retention rate is more than 80%.
