Domino’s Adds Tap to Order to CarPlay In-Car App

Ordering ahead for a Domino’s pizza from your car just became a little easier for iPhone users with the release Monday of an order-ahead app for CarPlay, the in-car infotainment app from Apple Inc.

The Domino’s Pizza Inc. app now enables consumers to Tap to Order or Call to Order from their car’s dashboard. CarPlay is an iPhone technology that places select apps on a vehicle’s in-dash screen to enable maps, messaging, music, and, as with Domino’s, transactions. The new in-car payment function is part of the burgeoning expansion of the Internet of Things to vehicles that could reach 4.7 billion transactions in 2026.

Consumers can use a Tap to Order function after downloading the Domino’s app to their iPhones and creating an account. A Call to Order function is available, too, that enables consumers to place orders hands-free by speaking with a customer-service representative. The payment is made using the method saved in the customer’s account when using Tap to Order. Any payment method can be used when making a Call to Order purchase. They also can monitor the status of their order in the app via the Domino’s tracker.

The CarPlay app can help eliminate waiting in a drive-thru line to place an order, Domino’s says. “Domino’s app on CarPlay is a great alternative to that, as customers still have the convenience of staying in their car, and can place an order from wherever they are, without waiting in a long drive-thru,” Christopher Thomas-Moore, Domino’s senior vice president and chief digital officer.

The iOS app is part of Domino’s AnyWare technology platform that also enables ordering with smart speakers, via Facebook Messenger, Slack, on smart watches, and via text and voice.
