Ripple CBDC Platform Unveiled And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 5/18/23

  • Blockchain company Ripple unveiled its Ripple CBDC Platform, technology supporting central banks, governments, and financial institutions in issuing central bank digital currencies. More than 90% of the world’s countries are at some stage of development toward a CBDC, according to the Atlantic Council.
  • Matera, a U.S.-based instant payment and QR code technology provider, released a report on Pix, Brazil’s instant payment system that it said provides insights for U.S. financial institutions as they prepare for FedNow’s July launch.
  • Buy now, pay later provider Splitit said Atlantic-Pacific Processing Systems NV will offer Splitit’s white label BNPL product to its merchants.
  • Weave, which offers a customer-communication channel for small businesses, has added an online bill-pay capability that allows firms to collect payment through a customized online page.
  • Payments platform i2c Inc. announced an agreement to offer the Juzt Mastercard in the U.S. market. The card is issued in Bulgaria by Access Finance and aimed at “credit-challenged” consumers.
  • The payments provider Airwallex said it is working with Expedia to offer Airwallex users a 10% discount on hotel stays when booking with the travel company.
  • Cloud-communications provider Vonage said it is collaborating with Meta’s WhatsApp to offer payments through the messaging app in Singapore.
