Coinbase Faces SEC Lawsuit And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/7/23

  • The Securities and Exchange Commission sued cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, alleging the company operates as an unregistered broker. The suit comes on the heels of a similar SEC action against Coinbase competitor Binance.
  • U.S.-based stablecoin platform Circle Internet Financial LLC said its Circle Singapore affiliate obtained a Major Payment Institution license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The license is for digital-payment token services and domestic and cross-border money transfer.
  • Digital fraud prevention provider Sift expanded its worldwide partner program to support new training and certification programs, access to its online partner community, and earning potential through co-selling and services.
  • Fintech ForwardAI launched Forwardly, a real-time payment-enabled cash flow management tool for small and medium-sized businesses.
  • Shift4 Payments Inc. said its payment processing technology will be integrated into casino gaming technology developer Light & Wonder Inc.’s cashless tabletop debit product, AToM.
  • Health care payments specialist RevSpring said Google Pay is a payment option in its PersonaPay portal.
  • Fiserv Inc. has completed its previously announced transition to the New York Stock Exchange and began trading Wednesday on the NYSE. The stock formerly traded on the Nasdaq.
  • Point-of-sale technology maker MagTek Inc. said Andrew “Andy” Deignan was appointed president, chief executive, and chairman by its board of directors. A MagTek veteran, Deignan most recently was vice president of global marketind and strategy. Deignan also made several personnel moves.
  • Benoit Boisset and Drew Freeman joined payments-platform startup Netevia Group LLC as chief operating officer and chief strategy officer, respectively. Boisset was formerly chief operating officer at Faster Pay. Freeman formerly was an independent payments consultant. Netevia is making banking services a core element of its proposition to ISOs.
  • Fintech Valor PayTech named Todd Harris senior vice president of business development and Bryna Pinks as senior relationship manager. Harris’s career includes stints at Fierv, TSYS, and PAX Technology. Pinks has worked at Hypercom, Verifone, and PAX Technology.
