Eye on Cannabis: POSaBIT POS 2.0 Debuts; Organic Payment Gateways’ New Program

Though not as credit and debit card friendly as some industries, the legalized cannabis industry continues to create opportunities for payments companies. Among the latest developments are the release of POSaBIT Systems Corp.’s latest point-of-sale system and a new program from Organic Payment Gateways.

Bellevue, Wash.-based POSaBIT says its POSaBIT POS 2.0 offers a simplified interface, improved data analytics, and more integrations with e-commerce platforms. Other updates, according to a POSaBIT support document, include customer-preferences settings, more fields for product details, and the ability to record cash denominations for each till at a point of sale.

POSaBIT also said a trial it managed of a crypto-based payments option across approximately 25 cannabis merchants concluded and it has decided not to pursue the option.

In related news, Organic Payment Gateways, a Scarborough, Maine-based payments company, announced a new program to help reduce some of the stress of payment processing for telemedicine practices and licensed medical marijuana card issuers.

The program includes access to the payment gateway, along with integration with online shopping carts like WooCommerce and with third-party practice-management software.

“We understand the challenges faced by telemedicine and [medical-marijuana] card issuers when it comes to payment processing. The industries’ stringent regulations, high-risk nature, and the need for integration with existing software and systems can create significant hurdles,” Alex Roy, Organic Payment Gateways president, says in a statement.

The WooCommerce integration not only enables payment card processing but also card-on-file and recurring-billing capabilities, the company says.
