Visa Closes Pismo Deal And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1/17/24

  • Visa Inc. said it has closed on its acquisition of Pismo, a card-issuing and banking platform operating in Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. The announcement follows Visa’s agreement in June to acquire Pismo for $1 billion in cash.
  • Payments-technology company Brightwell said it will implement Visa Direct to enable payouts to eligible bank accounts and wallets globally.
  • American Express Co. has sold its Accertify unit to the private-equity firm Accel-KKR. Terms were not announced. AmEx paid $150 million in 2010 to acquire Accertify, a provider of fraud-prevention and payment gateway services.
  • Data aggregator Akoya issued a recommendation that a proposed open-banking rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau should ban screen scraping, further restrict secondary uses of consumers’ financial data, and require that aggregators and other parties observe industry standards.
  • The payments provider Clearent by Xplor released Xplor Pay Mobile, a mobile-payment service that lets merchants process transactions using a Bluetooth reader and mobile app, with or without an Internet link.
  • Billing and payments provider Paymentus said it has become a qualified Yardi standard interface vendor, allowing property managers to use Paymentus’s services through the Yardi Voyager platform. Yardi is a software developer serving real-estate managers.
  • The airline company Virgin Atlantic and its tour operator, Virgin Atlantic Holidays, said they have adopted payments-orchestration services from payments provider Cellpoint Digital. Payments-orchestration technology eases management of multiple payment methods arriving through multiple channels.
  • Cbord, a provider of card and payments systems for campuses, announced an integration with Amazon.com Inc.’s Just Walk Out technology at the Candler Smart Bytes store in the St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga. The location is the first hospital store to adopt the technology.
  • Payments provider Swipesum said it is providing payment-processing services to NP Digital, a global digital marketing agency. The services include Staitment, an artificial-intelligence-based service, to review merchant statements for “hidden” processing fees.
  • Organic Payment Gateways released an online payment gateway for legal, Farm Bill-compliant CBD and hemp seed U.S. businesses.
