Eye on POS: Xenial Is CosMc’s POS System; Olo 2023 Revenue Rises 24%

A new fast-food and beverage concept called CosMc’s is using the Xenial cloud-based point-of-sale system from Global Payments Inc. CosMc’s is a beverage-first restaurant developed by McDonald’s Corp. with one location so far.

Xenial, a Global Payments company, supplies it enterprise-level POS system to CosMc’s. Xenial was originally part of Heartland Commerce, which Atlanta-based Global Payments acquired in 2016. The CosMc’s, in Bolingbrook, Ill., uses the Xenial Cloud POS, its drive-thru digital menu-board technology, and the Xenial camera-based speed-of-service timer to support a four-lane drive through and multiple pickup windows.

CosMc’s customers can pay at the drive-through menu board or the cashier window. They also can order and pay ahead of pickup or pay at the restaurant with a card or mobile wallet.

CosMc’s also used the Xenial’s Back Office suite for real-time reporting, management of inventory, sales, labor, projections, and scheduling.

Chicago-based McDonald’s intends to expand the number of CosMc’s test locations this year to 10, likely in the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio markets.

In related news, Olo Inc., a provider of point-of-sale and payments technology in the crowded restaurant and hospitality market, reported December-quarter revenue of $61.9 million up 27% year-over-year, and full year 2023 revenue of $225.2 million, up 24%. The company’s net loss widened in the quarter to $15.7 million from $8.2 million a year ago, and increased for the year to $58.3 million from $46 million in 2022.

In December, Olo announced it had signed Waffle House, an iconic chain of nearly 2,000 restaurants located mainly in the South. New York City-based Olo says Waffle House started with online ordering and planned to enable mobile ordering in 2024.
