PAX’s Network Tech and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/18/24

  • Point-of-sale technology provider PAX Technology Inc. introduced Airlink, networking technology that provides payment connectivity in outdoor settings and other venues where wireless Internet or other network service may be unavailable or insufficient.
  • Mastercard Inc. introduced what it calls a mobile virtual card app, which is aimed at financial institutions and supports the loading of commercial cards to users’ digital wallets.
  • Card-issuing platform Marqeta said it will issue the Rain Card, a debit card from benefits manager Rain that will let employers disburse earned wages to workers.
  • Cantaloupe Inc., a provider of payments connectivity for vending and other self-service markets, signed Monumental Markets, an operator of more than 500 micro markets and pantries. Monumental will use Cantaloupe’s Seed Markets technology platform.
  • Processor Finix introduced a merchant-underwriting service it said is aimed at controlling risk while onboarding merchants more quickly.
  • Asia-based financial-technology firm OPN Holdings has appointed payments-industry veteran Vaden Landers president and chief executive of its U.S. payments subsidiary, MerchantE. Landers most recently was CEO of S2 Cognition and before that worked for Global Payments, iPayment Holdings, and Usio.
  • Payments platform NMI said it has certified the ID Tech VP3350, a mobile card reader that connects to smart phones and tablets.
  • Tolling-technology provider MapUp launched TollTally, an AI-based toll-billing platform for vehicle fleets. The company says fleet-operations software provider Samsara has adopted the technology.
  • Bitcoin Depot signed Fareway Stores Inc. to deploy Bitcoin-dispensing kiosks. Fareway is said to be the largest chain yet signed by Bitcoin Depot, which expects to install its machines in 66 Fareway stores, starting this summer. The company also announced it has ordered 2,300 more Bitcoin ATMs, most set for arrival over the next six months. The purchase will ultimately bring the company’s installed base to more than 10,000, Bitcoin Depot says.
