MPC’s New CCCA Ad and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/23/24

  • The Merchants Payments Coalition released a 30-second TV ad that says the Credit Card Competition Act, a measure that would stipulate merchants have credit card routing choices, would prohibit China’s credit card network UnionPay from processing U.S. credit card transactions. Currently, no regulation prohibits that the MPC says. The CCCA, if passed, would keep U.S. card data from being processed over non-U.S.-based networks.
  • Shift4 Payments Inc. said it will provide payment processing for ticket sales for the Chicago White Sox Major League Baseball team, an expansion from point-of-sale services at the Sox stadium, Guaranteed Rate Field.
  • PPRO, a London-based payments platform, announced its entry into the U.S. e-commerce payments market.
  • Buy now, pay later platform Klarna AB said it has extended its processing partnership with Expedia Group to the U.S. market following launches in Finland, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
  • London-based cross-border payments processor Thunes announced it has agreed to acquire Tilia LLC, a San Francisco-based payments provider licensed in 48 U.S. states to process payments for online games, in-app purchases, and other markets. Terms were not announced.
  • Fifty-four percent of consumers surveyed by PayNearMe prefer to make a loan payment using PayPal, up from 43% in 2021. The online survey in March solicited responses from 1,574 U.S. consumers.
  • Credit union service organization PSCU/Co-op Solutions said its client card issuers can now enable digital wallet integration with Amazon One, the biometric-based identity system from Amazon.com Inc. that relies on an individual’s palm. Amazon One is accepted at select Whole Foods, Panera Bread, and Starbucks locations in addition to T-Mobile Park, Coors Field, Crunch Fitness, and airport stores like Hudson, Crews, and OHM.
  • Fraud and risk platform DataVisor Inc. expanded its partnership with Data Center Inc. to support more community banks across various use cases, such as real-time payments and wire transactions.
  • Subscription payments specialist Recurly Inc. released new online dashboard reports with built-in benchmarks.
  • Euronet Worldwide Inc., a U.S.-based payments provider, said it and SoftOne Group, a Europe-based software developer, to offer integrated merchant acquiring services in Greece.
