A new soccer club in San Diego will use Shift4 Payments Inc. for its ticketing transactions, while Passport Inc. readies its parking expertise for the NCAA Men’s College World Series this week.
Allentown, Pa.-based Shift4 says its payments technology will undergird ticket transactions for the new Major League Soccer team, San Diego FC. The team is scheduled to begin its season in 2025 with its home venue at Snapdragon Stadium, also home to San Diego State University football, the San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby, and San Diego Wave FC, a professional women’s soccer team.
Shift4 has been on a venue tear. In March, the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams selected it to process ticket sales via Shift4’s Ticketmaster integration. And in February Shift4 landed the New York Yankees concessions and retail sales point-of-sale contract.
In related news, the Men’s College World Series starts Monday in Omaha, Neb., and ends June 24. Charlotte, N.C.-based Passport says it is working with Omaha officials on parking, including handling special event parking rates. More than 392,000 individuals attended games at the College World Series in 2023, the Omaha World-Herald reported.
Passport operates the Park Omaha service, which is controlled by the city. In 2023, it experienced an 11% increase in total parking sessions and a 136% increase in transactions during the 2023 event compared to the two weeks prior, Passport says.
In addition to special parking rates this year, motorists can choose to pay the maximum parking cost within 24 hours of parking, a move that should promote compliance rather than penalties, Passport says.
