U.S. Mobile Payments Volume to Reach $797 Billion in 2025 and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/28/24

  • Data from eMarketer, a research firm, indicates mobile payments at the point of sale in the U.S. market will total $670.5 billion this year, up 21.4% from 2023, and will grow nearly 19% to reach $797 billion in 2025. Volume will cross the $1-trillion mark in 2027, the firm predicts.
  • SmartMetric Inc. announced it has produced a fingerprint-authenticated biometric credit and debit card, the GEN4. A scanner built in to the card can scan a user’s fingerprint in less than a half second, the company says.
  • Payments-technology provider GoDaddy Inc. elected Graham Smith as an independent director. Smith is a former executive with Salesforce.com Inc., among other companies.
  • Nium Pte. Ltd., a platform for real-time cross-border payments, appointed Spencer Hanlon chief operating officer. Previously, Hanlon served as the company’s global head of travel.
  • Edenred Pay North America has appointed Alex Hoffman general manager. Hoffman’s experience includes positions at MoneyGram International, ACI Worldwide, Versapay, and BigCommerce.
  • Stuart Mann has been re-elected to the board of directors of the Merchant Risk Council, an organization for e-commerce fraud-prevention officials. Mann is director of global fraud & account protection product management at Accertify Inc.
