GrabScanGo And MagTek Bring App Clip Technology to Hotel Mini Markets

GSG AveriGo LLC, a provider of self-service checkout technology at the point of sale, is working with GSG AveriGo LLC, a provider of self-service checkout technology at the point of sale, is working with MagTek Inc. to provide an App Clip through its GrabScanGo, service that enables consumers to purchase snacks, beverages and other travel-related items using Apple Pay at hotel micro markets.

App Clips are a small part of an app that allow a user to quickly perform a task, such as payments, without downloading or installing the full app and without creating an account. Apple Inc. introduced App Clips in 2017.

Transactions initiated using the App Clip will be processed through MagTek’s Magensa Payment Protection Gateway, a PCI-DSS certified Web-based service that supports a wide range of payments including Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, EMV contactless and NFC contactless cards, and magnetic-stripe cards.

Hotel guests can initiate a transaction through the App Clip by scanning the App Clip code displayed in the hotel’s mini market. After scanning, the App Clip appears on the consumer’s iPhone. The consumer then scans the UPC barcodes on the products’ packages, which adds the item to a virtual shopping cart. Consumers pay for their purchases at checkout using the Apple Pay wallet on their iPhones.

Enabling purchases in hotel mini markets using an App Clip is expected to streamline retail self-service purchasing for hotel guests, which in turn improves the overall customer experience for hotel guests and enhances customer loyalty, both companies say.

The technology is “simple, fast, and secure,” characteristics that build customer loyalty, says Andy Deignan, MagTek’s president and chief executive, in a statement.
