Venmo Takes Off With JetBlue for Online Bookings

JetBlue Airways Corp. announced Tuesday that it has become the first airline to accept PayPal Holdings Inc.’s popular Venmo payment service for online bookings.

Queens, N.Y.-based JetBlue says Venmo currently is available on JetBlue.com, and the service will roll out on the JetBlue mobile app in the coming months. U.S. customers will be able to buy flights using their Venmo balance or linked bank accounts, or credit or debit cards, according to JetBlue.

“We’re continually looking for ways to make it easier to book a JetBlue flight on our website and mobile app,” Carol Clements, JetBlue’s chief digital and technology officer, said in a statement. “Adding Venmo offers a seamless payment option for customers who enjoy the ease and convenience of the Venmo platform.”

John Anderson, San Jose, Calif.-based PayPal’s senior vice president and general manager of consumer, noted that multiple travelers on a single flight can manage expenses using the Venmo Groups feature, which launched in late 2023. “Travel is not just about the destination, but the people you go with and how you share the experience,” Anderson said in a statement. “The added ability to pay with Venmo for flights on JetBlue and manage travel costs during the trip through Groups helps solve the pain points of shared expenses from the time of booking to returning home.”

Last June eBay Inc. added Venmo as a payment option, a move eBay expected would enhance its big marketplace’s appeal to Millennials and Gen Zers, two demographics with which Venmo is a popular payment option.
