Checkbook Adds Visa Direct and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/5/25

  • Payments platform Checkbook said its users can now deposit funds in real time through Visa Direct to fund bank accounts connected to more than 4 billion debit cards.
  • Merchant’s Pact, a provider of payments services for banks, said an integration with Q2 Holdings Inc.’s digital-banking service will allow banks to offer an onboarding service to merchants for card acceptance.
  • Unattended payments provider Cantaloupe Inc., in a deal with Fundbox, launched Cantaloupe Capital, a capital financing program for small businesses.
  • Javelin Strategy & Research’s “2025 Instant Issuance Providers Scorecard” ranks Fiserv Inc. in first place among eight vendors. The firm took account of 28 criteria, including features, technology delivery, and customer support.
  • The payments platform WEX will work with Chargie, a provider of technology for electric-vehicle charging stations, to incorporate WEX’s fleet-payment services.
  • Mastercard Inc. said it will work with VikingCloud, a cybersecurity and PCI compliance firm, to help small and medium-size businesses counter cyber threats.
  • Mastercard has hired Susan Muigai as chief people officer, effective April 7. Muigai comes to Mastercard from TransUnion. Current CPO Michael Fraccaro will remain as an advisor until leaving at year’s end. 
  • Point-of-sale commerce specialist NCR Voyix Corp. named James G. Kelly president and chief executive. Kelly has been a board of director member since 2023 and had been chief executive of EVO Payments Inc. until its 2023 acquisition by Global Payments Inc.
  • Digital identity authentication provider Socure named Barrett Young chief marketing officer. Young was with Netradyne, a video telematics company, most recently.
