• USA Technologies Inc. announced it will work with point-of-sale terminal maker Ingenico to make Ingenico contact-EMV hardware available to providers of vending machines and other unattended terminals that use USAT’s network for contactless payments.
• In related news, Mastercard Inc. said it is making its Masterpass digital wallet available for purchases at vending machines through an alliance with PayRange, provider of an app for vending-based transactions.
• A group that supports the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s controversial planned prepaid account rule sued the CFPB hoping to obtain information about why Republicans are trying to repeal it, Reuters reported. The group, Allied Progress, alleges Republicans are doing a political favor for processor Total System Services Inc. (TSYS), owner of the big prepaid card services provider NetSpend. TSYS reportedly has donated campaign money to a senator leading the repeal effort, and NetSpend could lose $80 million a year in overdraft fees if the rule takes effect, according to Reuters.
• Payment and marketing services provider Spindle Inc. said it has a deal to acquire digital-marketing software assets from CoverCake Inc., with which Spindle plans to enhance its Catalyst platform. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
• Merchant processor Fattmerchant expanded its services to micromerchants, offering sellers processing less than $7,000 per month a flat rate of 2.9% per transaction. The processor’s pricing for bigger sellers is a flat monthly fee starting at $79.
• Payments provider Cayan said Aldelo, a point-of-sale software developer for the hospitality industry, now offers Cayan integration in its software, which is compatible with Cayan’s Genius line of POS terminals.
• Glance Technologies Inc., provider of the Glance Pay mobile-payment service for restaurants, said it will introduce a mobile order-ahead capability.
• Hyperwallet, a provider of payouts globally, said it has enhanced its global wire-transfer capability by using The Western Union Co.’s Mass Payments technology.
• Transactis, a provider of digital billing and payments services, said it is working with mobile-wallet provider Walletron to enable bill presentment and payment via customers’ smart phones.
• Visa Inc. appointed John F. Lundgren to its board of directors. Lundgren formerly was chief executive of consumer-product maker Stanley Black & Decker. With Lundgren’s appointment, Visa’s board expanded from nine to 10 members.
• Mobile rewards and payments provider Sionic Mobile appointed Nat Milburn managing director of enterprise development. Milburn comes to the company from venture-capital firm Revel Partners.
