Point-of-sale terminal maker Ingenico Group said its Telium Tetra POS terminal is now available in Canada through TD Merchant Solutions, the first Canadian acquirer to offer the device. Separately, processor Elavon, a unit of U.S. Bancorp, made the Poynt Co. POS terminal available in Canada.
Ingenico said its touchscreen, countertop device, the Desk/5000, is the first of several Tetra products TD Merchant Solutions will offer merchants. The Tetra device hosts payment and business applications, such as rewards programs, employee time tracking, and customer satisfaction surveys.
Part of the program, too, will see TD Merchant Solutions, a unit of The Toronto-Dominion Bank, offer Ingenico’s Marketplace for business apps to use on the terminals as early as 2018.
In related news, Elavon said the introduction of the Poynt POS terminal to its merchants will provide them with payment acceptance flexibility and access to applications. “Poynt makes the payment experience easy and engaging for customers, which is not something they’ve experienced with traditional payment terminals,” said Mia Huntington, general manager, Canada, for Elavon, in a press release.
Poynt was started in 2013 by Osama Bedier, a former Google and PayPal executive.
