Apptizer App Integrated into Verifone Carbon and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/8/18

  • Payment-processing hardware and software provider VeriFone Systems Inc. said the Apptizer mobile order-ahead app is now integrated with its Verifone Carbon point-of-sale devices.
  • In related news, VeriFone said Helsinki-based Euroloan Group Plc’s Mash application is now integrated into the Verifone Connect system, enabling consumers to select a pay-later option when checking out at Verifone Engage, Carbon, and certain VX point-of-sale devices in Europe.
  • Payroc LLC announced it purchased Integrity Payment Systems LLC. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Fiserv Inc. said revenues in its Payments and Industry Products segment grew 7% year-over-year in 2017’s fourth quarter to $865 million. The financial-institution processor also said it was selling a 55% share of its Lending Solutions business for auto-loan originations and mortgage and consumer-loan servicing to private-equity firm Warburg Pincus LLC for $395 million.
  • Mercator Advisory Group Inc. released the “Payment Channel Alternatives to the Card Networks for Merchants” report that examines other ways consumers can pay for transactions in stores.
  • Federal authorities in Las Vegas charged 36 defendants from the United States and abroad with racketeering conspiracy or other crimes in connection with their alleged roles with the “Infraud Organization,” an online fraud ring that sold stolen identities, payment card data, and other personal and financial information resulting in $530 million in losses to consumers, businesses, and financial institutions, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.
  • Starbucks Corp. unveiled its Visa-branded loyalty card issued by JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s card subsidiary; the card comes with a $49 annual fee and enhanced opportunities for holders to earn Starbucks Rewards points, dubbed “stars.”
  • Retailer Walmart Inc. appointed Sarah Friar, chief financial officer of merchant processor Square Inc., to its board of directors.
