- Equifax Inc. said it expects costs from its massive 2017 data breach to hit $275 million this year, offset by $75 million in insurance proceeds, Reuters reported. The credit-reporting agency also disclosed that another 2.4 million people were affected by the cyber attack in addition to the more than 145 million reported earlier. Equifax also disclosed in a regulatory filing that it may lose access to some credit card data if it can’t confirm it has fixed data-security weaknesses, Bloomberg reported.
- Check-scanner manufacturer Digital Check Corp. issued a white paper that examines postal-banking systems around the world. While Digital Check says it’s unlikely that postal banking will come to the U.S. in the near future, postal-banking services provide insights that could help private-sector banks deal with declining foot traffic and rising transaction costs in branches.
- Brazil’s PegSeguro Digital Ltd. introduced what it calls a “pocket point of sale” device for micro-merchants. The device comes with a SIM card and free data plan.
