- New York’s comptroller, who oversees the state’s public pension funds, last week sent letters to the four general-purpose card networks, three of the nation’s biggest banks, and First Data Corp. and Worldpay Inc. asking them to assess whether gun sales should be considered restricted high-risk purchases, Bloomberg reported. New York’s letter comes in the wake of the Feb. 14 mass shooting at a Florida high school, after which Citigroup Inc. imposed some restrictions on gun sales.
- Processor Net Element Inc. said its Unified Payments subsidiary introduced a same-day funding service through its proprietary Netevia platform.
- CellPoint Mobile, which specializes in payments for the travel industry, announced the opening of a Chicago office to aid its software development efforts.
- Fleet-fueling payment services provider Fleetcor Technologies Inc. said Motus LLC will integrate its platform for tracking mileage and reimbursements for workers who use their own vehicles for business purposes with Fleetcor’s fuel cards, sparing workers the need to use personal cards for business expenses.
- Aliant Payment Systems said the Litecoin Foundation will refer potential merchants wanting to accept the Litecoin digital currency to Aliant following a partnership between the two organizations.
- Mastercard Inc. appointed Ann Cairns, who has been the network’s international president since 2011, to the position of vice chairman, effective June 1. Replacing her as president, international, will be Gilberto Caldart, who has headed Mastercard’s Latin America and Caribbean region since 2013.
