Ticketing App Atom Tickets Adds Landmark Theatres to a Stable of Major Movie Chains

The movie-ticketing app Atom Tickets has struck a deal with Landmark Theatres, said to be the country’s largest exhibitor of independent films, to add the company’s 53 theaters and 255 screens in 27 markets across the country.

The deal will boost Atom Tickets’ coverage that includes more than 20,000 screens in North America. It may also add an especially enthusiastic base of users for Atom, a specialized mobile-payments company that emerged four years ago with backing from the major movie studios Lionsgate, Disney, and Twentieth Century Fox Film. Fidelity Management & Research Co. is also an investor. Landmark specializes in independent, 3-D, and foreign films.

The Atom app allows moviegoers to order ahead both tickets and concessions, and also to invite friends to the show. Once at the theater, users scan a quick-response (QR) code to pay. Recently, the Santa Monica, Calif.-based company joined a beta program offered by Amazon.com Inc. that allows customers to use voice-response technology tied to Amazon’s Alexa app and its Amazon Pay wallet Atom users can also pay with Apple Pay, Chase Pay, or PayPal, as well as credit cards.

Other movie chains participating in the app include AMC Theatres, Regal Cinemas, Southern Theatres, National Amusement’s Showcase Cinemas, Bow Tie Cinemas, and Harkins Theatres, whose 1,000 screens were added in April.
