PayPal Buying Simility for $120 Million and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 6/22/18

  • PayPal Holdings Inc. said it is buying Simility, a fraud-prevention and risk-management platform, for $120 million. Once the deal closes—expected in the third quarter—PayPal merchants will get access to Simility’s fraud tools, the company said. This is PayPal’s second acquisition announced this week. Wednesday PayPal said it was buying Hyperwallet for $400 million. Its $2.2 billion acquisition of iZettle, announced in May, is expected to close in the third quarter.
  • Tablet-based systems provider Aila Technologies Inc. paired its iPad-based Interactive Kiosk product with Ingenico Group’s iSMP4 Companion payment device to create a system for retailers and health-care providers to streamline customer registration, check-in, and payment processes.
  • PayByPhone Technologies Inc., a unit of Volkswagen Financial Services AG that enables consumers to pay for parking with its app, announced the service is now available in Beaufort, N.C.
  • Police in India’s eastern state of Assam said rats entered an ATM through a wiring hole and chewed on rupee bank notes worth £13,300 ($17,230), The Telegraph in London reported.
