- Discover Financial Services’ Payment Services unit reported its transaction volume grew 8% year-over-year to $61.8 billion, a result that included 7% growth for its Pulse electronic funds transfer network. Overall, total Discover revenue net of interest expense increased 10% to $2.85 billion, while net income jumped 13% to $753 million.
- In related news, Discover Global Network said it has an agreement with Paris-based La Banque Postale to allow Diners Club International and allied network cardholders to perform transactions at La Banque Postale merchant clients and at ATMs in its network.
- Ingenico Group reported 1.6 billion euros ($1.8 billion) in first-half 2019 revenue, a 14.3% increase from 1.4 billion euros ($1.6 billion) for the first half of 2018. The point-of-sale equipment maker also said its North America banking and acquiring revenue of $81.4 million decreased 9% from a year ago, which was influenced by weaker demand in Canada.
- ATM and payment-services provider Euronet Worldwide Inc., owner of the Ria money-transfer network, said its money-transfer segment generated $276.8 million in second-quarter revenues, up 6% year-over-year, and its transaction volume grew 7% to 28.9 million.
- CardFlight Inc. said its SwipeSimple Terminal point-of-sale application is available on the A920 POS device from PAX Technology Inc. Later this quarter, the application will be available on the PAX A80 device.
- First American Payment Systems LP said its processing services are available within 2i Nova’s veterinary-management software.
- Cardtronics said Timewise Food Stores extended its ATM management contract to all 220 Timewise locations. The deal also calls for more than 200 of the ATMs to be branded as PNC Bank machines.
- Online electronics retailer Newegg Inc. said it is expanding Bitcoin acceptance to its sites in 73 additional countries, bringing the cryptocurrency to nearly all the countries the merchant serves. Digital-currency processor BitPay provides the acceptance service.
- Fraud-prevention firm Giact Systems LLC, in conjunction with Javelin Strategy & Research, released the “The Evolution of New Account Fraud” report.
- A Citi Retail Services survey of 1,000 U.S. adults found that 68% have purchased most or all of their jewelry in store, compared to 12% that did so online.
- Visa Inc., a sponsor of the Olympic Games scheduled for next year in Tokyo, said it is preparing initiatives for the Games to support the Japanese government’s “Cashless Japan” plan to double the proportion of digital payments to 40% by 2025.
