Wisconsin May Consider Requiring Cash Acceptance and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/23/19

  • Despite very few stores in Wisconsin refusing to accept cash payments, a member of the state Assembly recently introduced a bill that would require merchants to accept cash for face-to-face purchases, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. The bill would impose fines of $200 up to $5,000 for violations. Similar proposals have passed or are pending in other states and cities.
  • Payment technology provider Dwolla Inc. published a guide for submitting comments to the Federal Reserve on its proposal for FedNow, a Fed-operated real-time payments system.
  • The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency released recommendations on how organizations can protect themselves against ransomware.
  • CFI Group, a customer-experience management company, and Radial Inc., a retail-services provider, issued a report that found 61% of online buyers opted for in-store pickup at least once in the past 12 months, and 27% used the ship-to-store option for an online order at least three times in the past 12 months.
