Fiserv Tests PIN-on-Mobile and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/18/20

  • Fiserv Inc. said its First Data unit is piloting PIN-on-mobile technology in Poland, with plans to expand the program to the rest of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific region. The technology, which allows merchants to accept PINs on off-the-shelf mobile devices, was developed in collaboration with Visa Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., and PayCore.
  • Payments-technology provider i2c Inc. said it and SmartHealth PayCard LLC are launching what they say is the first credit card dedicated to health-care expenses.
  • Visa Inc. announced a cobranded card program with Accor, a global hotel operator.
  • Point-of-sale equipment maker Star Micronics upgraded its mPOP device, which combines a cash drawer and printer in one, with additional cash management features.
  • The U.S. Payments Forum released a report it says will help merchants, issuers, and acquirers more clearly understand payment-network rules surrounding contactless payments.
  • Prepaid card specialist InComm said it is working with Eezi, a transaction-processing company, to launch a gift card program for Poundland, a discount retailer in the United Kingdom.
  • ACI Worldwide Inc. appointed Odilon Almeida president and chief executive, succeeding interim president and CEO Craig Saks. Almeida comes to the company with 17 years of experience at The Western Union Co. and most recently was an operating partner at Advent International, a private-equity fund.
  • Square Inc. said it will conduct an investor day session March 18 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pacific Time.
  • The Chinese government has ordered banks to disinfect cash to help curb the spread of the coronavirus, CNBC reported.
