- Seventy-three percent of U.S. adults say they would be more or much more likely to use digital payments or digital banking services during a time of social distancing, according to a survey of 1,043 persons aged 18 and up by The Harris Poll on behalf of William Mills Agency. The canvass took place March 23-24.
- Payments provider Skrill said it is offering its digital wallet and Quick Checkout technology free of charge to small and medium-size businesses globally at least until Sept. 30. The move is intended to help merchants that are forced by events surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic to convert to digital payments for the first time, the company said.
- Online marketplace eBay Inc. said it will allow small businesses with no e-commerce capability to open a free “basic” store for three months and will waive selling fees on the first 500 items. The program is aimed at assisting small merchants that have had to close their brick-and-mortar stores because of loss of business during the Covid-19 pandemic. Some 63% of all eBay transactions “involve a mobile touchpoint,” the company said.
- Fair Isaac Corp., a vendor of creditworthiness technology, launched a service aimed at helping lenders create new payment plans for consumers in the face of hardships created by the Covid-19 pandemic.
- Garmin International Inc. launched its quatix 6 marine GPS smart watch series, intended for sport fishermen and other water-sport enthusiasts and including contactless-payment capability.
- Point-of-sale equipment maker Star Micronics said OrderOut, an online food-delivery app, is using a Star Micronics printer with the Clover POS system.
- Coinsbit, a cryptocurrency exchange, said it has launched the first worldwide marketplace accepting digital currency, allowing users to buy consumer electronics, appliances, and other gadgets.
