Omnichannel Processing Takes Another Step as Wix.com Enters the Fray

The trend toward providing merchants technology that unites their digital and physical payments acceptance and allows them to manage their operations from a single platform got another boost Tuesday with Israel-based Wix.com Inc.’s introduction of Wix POS.

The solution allows merchants to accept in-store and online payments, including contactless and chip cards, as well as digital wallets in-store and online. It also enables them to manage all sales, inventory and data directly from the Wix platform. Merchants can sell on marketplaces, social media, and other e-commerce channels alongside their Wix eCommerce store.

“Wix POS offers a cohesive end-to-end omnichannel solution, unifying the online and offline, directly from the Wix platform,” Liat Karpel Gurwicz, head of e-commerce marketing for Wix, says by email. “The Wix POS offering is unique to the market in that it allows business owners to seamlessly synchronize their online presence with their offline point of sale, providing them with better visibility over their entire business operation.”

Prior to the launch of Wix POS, Wix users were able to connect their e-commerce store to over 50 payment providers supported on the Wix platform, including providers with point-of-sale solutions, such as Square, Gurwicz adds.

In addition, Wix POS is integrated with the Wix eCommerce platform and supports fully synced inventory, orders, fulfillment, CRM, analytics, data, and reports. All sales are automatically reflected in the Wix dashboard across the platform, including the Wix POS device, Wix Business Manager, and Wix Owner App

Merchants can select a variety of Wix POS hardware kits. The Wix Complete POS Retail Package, which sells for $750, is aimed at Wix e-commerce merchants with a store presence and comes with premium HP hardware. It also includes a terminal with customer display, cash drawer, barcode scanner, receipt printer, and the Stripe Terminal card reader.

The Wix Retail Essential Package, which sells for $550, includes the terminal with customer display and the Stripe Terminal card reader.

Wix Mobile POS is a service operated within the Wix Owner App and serves businesses transacting on the go. The solution is supported on both iOS and Android and connects through Bluetooth with the Stripe Terminal card reader.

Merchants can also choose accessories, such as barcode scanners, receipt printers, and cash drawers on an à la carte basis to create a setup more customized to their needs.

The Wix Retail POS hardware kits come with an HP terminal that is pre-installed with the Wix POS software.

Wix POS transactions are processed through Wix Payments via the Stripe Terminal card reader, offering Wix merchants a wide variety of ways to accept in-person payments, including contactless cards, chip, and digital wallets. Processing rates for U.S. merchants are a standard, fixed-rate for all in-person payments. No additional fees are charged for processing refunds or chargebacks.
