eBay’s Payments Payoff and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 8/12/21

  • EBay Inc. reported some 80% of its on-platform payments volume was processed through its managed-payments service by the end of the second quarter. More than 13 million sellers globally were using the platform.
  • Payment card manufacturer CPI Card Group Inc. said consumers’ shift to contactless cards, which command a higher price than ordinary plastic, helped drive the company’s sales volume in the second quarter to $93.2 million, up 31% year-over-year. For the first half of the year, sales grew 25%, to $182.3 million, compared to the first six months of 2020.
  • A strong comeback in the second quarter for travel-and-ticketing sales volume, which rose 122% globally, helped drive a 15% jump in overall global e-commerce sales in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2020, according to data from ACI Worldwide Inc.’s eCommerce Fraud Index.
  • Point-of-sale system provider Electronic Payments updated its Exatouch system with a customer-facing display stand that includes a 10-inch touchscreen, support for an in-counter weight scale, and additional reporting data.
  • Retailer Steve Madden Ltd. selected PredictSpring’s Modern POS for its commerce platform.
  • The Diem Association’s U.S. venture, Diem Networks US, said it has chosen K2 Integrity, a risk and compliance firm, to help protect the blockchain-based network from illicit activity. Diem formerly was known as Libra, which Facebook Inc. introduced in 2019.
  • Mercator Advisory Group released its “Co-branded Credit Cards: Reinventing Themselves Post Covid Losses” report.
  • BitPay Inc. said holders of its BitPay Prepaid Mastercard can now add the card to Google Wallet and use it through Google Pay.
