- Purchase scams, in which consumers pay for goods that never arrive, was the number-one fraud type in the second quarter in terms of card-fraud attempts, beating out social-engineering frauds, according to fraud-prevention firm Feedzai. The top city for overall fraud attempts was Las Vegas, with fraud up 411% in the quarter year-over-year, beating out New York City (up 396%) and Charleston, S.C. (251%).
- Banks that agreed to pay fees to Apple Inc. on Apple Pay transactions are now working through Visa Inc. to blunt the impact of the mobile wallet following Apple’s 2019 launch of its own credit card, according to The Wall Street Journal. Visa is planning to assign a token on recurring Apple Pay transactions different from the one on the first transaction, which will prevent Apple from collecting the fees after the first transaction, the newspaper reported.
- Visa Inc. said it is launching Visa Installments, its buy now, pay later technology, in Australia through ANZ, said to be one of the country’s biggest financial institutions, and payments provider Quest Payment Systems.
- Payments provider Klarna Bank AB said it will work with shopping-mall developer Simon to make Klarna’s service available to customers of participating merchants in Simon properties.
- In related news, payments provider FreedomPay said Klarna AB’s installment payment service has been integrated into its platform and is now available to FreedomPay merchants for use in stores.

- Newburyport Bank said it is working with payments provider Paystri to provide merchant services to its commercial clients.
- Pineapple Payments, a unit of Fiserv Inc., said it is expanding its MIC Bankcard Program for the powersports industry, to a more dealer-centric offer. Ray Smith, who has 38 years of experience in the powersports and marine business, will lead the MIC Bankcard Program team.
- MoneyGram International Inc. said it will integrate its network with the Stellar Development Foundation, backer of the Stellar blockchain, to enable cash funding and payout in local currency for consumers who use Circle Internet Financial’s USD Coin token.
- Payment service provider Mobilium Technologies Inc. announced what it calls an “off-ramp” for cryptocurrency holders, who can now convert their holdings to fiat currency through Mobilium with gift, debit, and credit cards.
