- ZmBIZI LLC released its Z2 smart phone that accepts tap-and-pay transactions without requiring an external POS terminal. The $550 smart phone was part of a Visa Tap to Phone test earlier this year and is expected to have full commercial availability in early 2022.
- Visa Inc.’s U.S. Spending Momentum Index fell for the second consecutive month, but still indicates consumers spent more in September than in September 2020. The index, at 108.5 last month, was down 1.1. points from August. The reading indicates consumer spending was affected by the Covid-19 Delta variant, Visa said.
- Synchrony Financial and Fiserv Inc. said small businesses will now be able to access Synchrony products and services and accept private-label credit card payments via the Clover point-of-sale system. A Synchrony app will be available in the Clover App Market.
- Payments-technology provider Lightspeed Commerce Inc. launched Lightspeed Restaurant, a commerce and point-of-sale platform that draws on Lightspeed’s recent acquisitions of hospitality-technology firms, including Upserve.
- Veem, a payments network for small businesses, said it will enable access for its clients to Visa Inc.’s card program tailored for small companies, as well as to Visa Direct, Visa’s real-time push-payment network.
- Buy now, pay later provider Sezzle Inc. said it has expanded a relationship with the credit-reporting company TransUnion to enable users to establish and build credit based on their history with Sezzle.
- The board of directors of private-label card company Alliance Data Systems Corp. approved the spinoff of the company’s LoyaltyOne unit into an independent, publicly traded company called Loyalty Ventures Inc.
- Chetu, a provider of software for payment terminals, announced its technology will work with devices from PAX Technology Inc.
- The financial-messaging network SWIFT announced some 100 banks have signed up for SWIFT Go since the service went live in July. Some 10 banks are now active on the system. SWIFT Go enables consumers and small businesses to send fast, low-value cross-border payments from their bank accounts.
