- Consumer concerns about slow deliveries and worldwide inventory issues means some 45% of holiday-season spending this year will go to gift cards, according to survey results from consumers in 10 countries gathered by Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. That represents a 27% increase in gift card spending from last year’s holidays, Blackhawk says. The survey drew responses from some 11,000 consumers.
- Payments provider Electronic Merchant Systems said it is offering a payment processing and gift card program for Herbalife Nutrition Clubs.
- Blockchain-based payments provider Circle Internet Financial LLC said its SeedInvest funding platform has invested $10.5 million as part of a $13.5 million round for Crowdcube Ltd., said to be the largest fundraising platform in the United Kingdom for startups.
- Thirstie Inc., whose technology links liquor brands with consumers, launched a line of gift cards created specifically for alcohol brands, the first time such cards have been introduced, the company says.
- In related news, blockchain-based e-commerce processor Future FinTech Group Inc., based in the United States, said its FTFT UK Ltd. unit has started beta testing a mobile wallet.
- Blockchain-based payments provider Flexa said it will enable Regal, a major movie-theater operator, to accept payments from consumers using digital currency. Regal operates more than 7,000 screens across 500 theaters.
- Fiserv Inc. closed on its previously announced acquisition of BentoBox CMS Inc., a provider of marketing and commerce technology for restaurants. Terms were not announced.
- Quisitive Technology Solutions Inc., parent company of the LedgerPay payments technology, reported revenue of $27.8 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30, up 119% year-over-year, and payment volume of $940 million.
- POSaBIt, a blockchain-based payments provider specializing in cash-only businesses, said it is teaming with Shield Compliance to offer clients software for anti-money-laundering and Bank Secrecy Act compliance.
- Payments analytics firm and consultancy The Strawhecker Group noted the promotion of Marissa Charles to digital marketing manager. She had been a marketing analyst. The firm also noted several recent hires.
