Shift4 Expands Its Sports-Stadium Portfolio to T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas

Add Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena to Shift4 Payments Inc.’s growing list of sports and entertainment venues to which the company provides payment processing. T-Mobile Arena is home to the National Hockey League’s Las Vegas Golden Knights franchise and hosts other entertainment events on the Las Vegas strip.

Shift4 will process payments for all food and beverage purchases at the arena using its VenueNext point-of-sale platform. In addition, Shift4 will integrate its mobile-commerce service with AXS, T-Mobile Arena’s official ticketing partner, for use within VenueNext’s mobile-wallet and fan-loyalty offerings. Fans can use the app at food-and-beverage locations throughout the arena to order and pay for products. T-Mobile Arena has 60 concession stands and satellite locations.

VenueNext, which Shift4 acquired in March last year for $72 million, is integrating with AXS to use single sign-on within its mobile offering and to extend loyalty/entitlements to individual fans and segments. Shift4 has a variety of loyalty and rewards capabilities the venue can activate at its discretion, Anthony Perez, head of enterprise for Shift4, says by email. Shift4 does not process ticket purchases for T-Mobile Arena at this time. “The ticketing system generally serves as the source for fan identity,” Perez says.

The trend among sports and entertainment venues toward cashless POS technology has been gaining momentum the past two years as more and more venues invest in Wi-Fi and mobile-network technology infrastructure, Perez told Digital Transactions in 2021 as part of an article on cashless sports stadiums.

“The partnership with Shift4 and VenueNext will allow us to maintain the most up-to-date technologies while enhancing our mobile and digital capabilities,” Dan Quinn, T-Mobile Arena’s general manager says in a prepared statement.

Shift4 has steadily built out its portfolio of sports stadiums to include venues in every major sports league, as well as theaters and other entertainment places. The company’s stadium portfolio includes Chicago’s United Center, San Francisco’s Levi’s Stadium, and San Diego’s Petco Park.
