PowaPOS Sold and other Digital Transactions News briefs

• SuperCom Ltd., an Israel-based identity-verification company, bought PowaPOS, the tablet-based point-of-sale unit of Powa Technologies Ltd., a commerce company that floundered. Powa’s two other units, PowaWeb and PowaTag, already have been sold.

• American Express Co. reported $176.3 billion in U.S. card-billed business during the first quarter, up 4% from a year earlier; AmEx’s average worldwide discount rate declined 5 basis points to 2.44% of the sale.

• Automated clearing house governing organization NACHA announced winners of its 2016 Payments System Awards.

• Merchant processor Moneris Solutions Corp. says it and tablet point-of-sale services provider talech Inc. have entered a partnership and referral agreement.

• Consumer financial information provider Bankrate Inc. listed the 10 banks with most ATMs; JPMorgan Chase & Co. is No. 1 with 18,623 followed by No. 2 Bank of America Corp. with 16,062.

• The JOEY restaurant chain introduced a proprietary mobile app that allows customers to pay their bill with cards loaded into an iPhone. The company operates 26 casual-dining locations in Canada and the western U.S.

• Payments provider Nodus Technologies agreed to integrate its solutions with payments platform Zooz, which specializes in optimal transaction routing. The integration will give Nodus access to more than 40 international merchant acquirers and banks.

• Anti-fraud specialist Vesta Corp. released the “Five Challenges Merchants Must Address Now” white paper, detailing its view on merchant reactions to shifting consumer preferences.

• A startup called Digitzs launched what it calls a global payments application programming interface that works with app marketplaces and platforms, bridging the gap between in-store and e-commerce payments.
