AmEx Acquires Mezi and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1-31-18

  • Processor Fiserv Inc. reported that its Accel debit network has added new transaction-routing options, including the ability to process signature-based transactions. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is using the new signature service, Fiserv said. Accel also will make signatures optional for merchants beginning in April, as are the four general-purpose card networks.
  • American Express Co. acquired software firm Mezi, which was founded in 2015 and offers a personal travel-assistant app that helps consumers plan and book trips. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
  • Only 29% of consumers are aware that they can make purchases through social media, according to a National Retail Federation survey.
  • Meta Financial Group Inc., owner of prepaid card provider Meta Payment Systems, reported net income of $4.67 million for its first quarter of fiscal 2018 ended Dec. 31, up 275% from $1.24 million a year earlier.
