- USA Technologies Inc., which provides payment technology for unattended merchant locations, announced it has an $85 million cash and stock deal to acquire Cantaloupe Systems, a San Francisco-based software provider serving the vending-machine industry. Cantaloupe operates in the U.S., Canada, and several international markets, and its Seed Cloud applications include Seed Cashless for accepting payment cards and mobile wallets.
- American Express Co. launched its Amex Advance platform that enables merchants in the travel, service, and advertising industries to analyze closed-loop American Express transactions in addition to their own data and publicly available consumer data in order to develop highly targeted advertising and marketing campaigns.
- ControlScan Inc. said the 110-store Food Giant Supermarkets Inc. chain is using various ControlScan data-protection services.
- Processor Co-Op Financial Services announced an expanded relationship with First Technology Federal Credit Union that includes credit card processing and rewards-program management, and a renewal of its agreement for signature and PIN-debit processing and ATM terminal driving.
- The Big Ten Conference and the Big Ten Network have selected Discover as the conference’s official credit card in a multiyear agreement.
- WEX Inc., a business-to-business payments processor specializing in fleet fueling, said it is eligible to support U.S. government card and payment services through its link with Citibank N.A. The bank has chosen WEX to process fleet card payments for several government agencies, WEX said.
- Payment cards fitted with fingerprint sensors will reach 160 million shipments worldwide by 2022, with a five-year compound annual growth rate of about 400%, said ABI Research.
