AmEx’s Encouraging Results and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 4/19/24

  • American Express Co. reported first-quarter 2024 revenue of $15.8 billion, up 11% from the same period last year, and billed business of $367 billion, up 6%. Net income grew 34% to $2.44 billion.
  • Affinipay, a payments platform specializing in the legal and accounting professions, said it has expanded its LawPay and CPACharge platform into Puerto Rico. The company says it serves 80,000 firms in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Creator Hotel & Resort Collection has chosen Toast Inc. as its point-of-sale platform for food-and-beverage outlets in its hotels and resorts.
  • Digital-wallet platform OV Loop Inc. said it has acquired Cultos.io, a blockchain-based loyalty and engagement provider. Terms were not disclosed. OV Loop in February sued Mastercard on antitrust grounds, contending the card company denied it access to bank tokens equal to that granted to Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • MobileDemand launched its xCase for the Microsoft Surface Pro 10 tablet. The xCase, a covering intended to protect the tablet, includes a Honeywell barcode scanner and the iDynamo 6 payments device from MagTek.
  • The Xbox Mastercard, said to be Xbox’s first U.S. cobranded credit card, is now available in all 50 states, the companies said, following a limited release that started in September. The Xbox videogame console is a product of Microsoft Corp.
  • CanPay, an 8-year-old payments platform for legal cannabis retailers, said its service has been used over that time by 300,000 consumers nationwide, generating more than $1 billion in volume. The company says it now serves some 1,100 dispensaries.
