- Prepaid card program manager Netspend Corp. and its business partners were scrambling Wednesday morning to clear up an apparent glitch preventing some users of a prepaid product for payroll from accessing their paychecks. Issuing partner MetaBank released a statement to news media indicating it is working to clear up the issue, which is apparently related to a problem at processor Fidelity National Information Services Inc. (FIS). “Meta is confirming that their processing partner, FIS, is experiencing an issue with an ACH application that is impacting the ability of a number of our clients to service customers,” MetaBank said in statement issued to news media. “We are collectively working to remediate the issue as quickly as possible and return the operations to business-as-usual.” An FIS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A number of disgruntled users took to Twitter and other social media to air their complaints against the bank and NetSpend, a unit of processor Total System Services Inc.
- Apptizer Inc., a developer of order-ahead technology for mobile and kiosk applications, launched Order Eat Pay, a tabletop ordering application for small and midsize restaurants.
- Payments platform Worldnet TPS Ltd. achieved Google Pay certification and can support transactions on the mobile-payment service from payment service providers and independent sales organizations.
- U.S. Bancorp, owner of merchant acquirer Elavon, reported $392 million in merchant-processing revenue in the third quarter, up 4% from $377 million a year earlier. Higher sales volumes drove the revenue increase, the bank said.
- Processor First Data Corp. released results of a study of nearly 1,800 U.S. consumers that found 26% of respondents reported having personally identifying information compromised within the last month and 34% within the last year. More than half of respondents who have performed a Dark Web scan found their personal information available, including 90% of those ages 24-34.
- Cloud-based point-of-sale system developer Lightspeed launched the Retail Success Index, a questionnaire for independent retailers to determine a score for their businesses aimed at quantifying areas for improvement.
