Bitcoin Depot Adds Merchants Where Consumers Can Buy Crypto at The Point of Sale

Bitcoin Depot Inc., a Bitcoin ATM operator, has expanded the footprint of its BDCheckout program to more than 400 retail locations in Iowa and Louisiana. BDCheckout enables consumers to fund digital wallets with cryptocurrency at checkout through Bitcoin Depot’s network of merchants.

Consumers can access BDCheckout at 246 convenience stores in Iowa including Kum & Go, Kwik Trip and Pilot Travel Centers, according to Bitcoin Depot. In Louisiana, the company is adding 166 merchant locations. Transactions will be processed through InComm Payments. With this expansion, BDCheckout is now available at participating merchants in 25 states, accounting for approximately 5,600 locations.

With BDCheckout, users download the Bitcoin Depot app. Next, they select the location where they will be conducting the transaction from within the app, then enter the amount they want to load into their digital wallet. The app then generates a barcode that can be scanned at the checkout counter to complete the transaction. Users pay the merchant the amount to be downloaded to their wallet, and can fund the transaction with cash or a credit or debit card.

Consumers can also purchase cryptocurrency online and through Bitcoin Depot at the company’s 6,400 branded ATMs. Bitcoin Depot launched in 2016 with the intent of easing consumer access to cryptocurrency.

“We are always seeking opportunities to increase the number of access points across more states,” Bitcoin Depot chief executive and founder Brandon Mintz says in a statement. “We launched BDCheckout last year to provide users with another layer of ease and convenience when managing their Bitcoin Depot digital wallets.”
