BJ’s Wholesale Club Now Accepts PayPal and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 7/9/18

  • Macy’s Inc. disclosed that criminals were able to breach sensitive data on Macys.com, the Detroit Free Press reported. Citing a letter sent to customers, the newspaper said Macy’s detected suspicious activity on June 11. The retailer then blocked customer profiles that appeared to be breached. Hackers were able to get the customer names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, birthdays, and credit and debit card numbers with expiration dates. Card verification codes were not part of the theft.
  • Warehouse retailer BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. said it has expanded its online acceptance options to include PayPal, PayPal Credit, and PayPal OneTouch.
  • Mastercard Inc. and banking-technology provider Strands announced they are working together to bring digital cash-management and commercial-payment tools to issuing banks to help with their small and medium-size business clients.
  • U.S. travelers will be able to obtain a prepaid UnionPay card from a collaboration of issuer Global Bank of New York and program manager Ecard Inc.
  • Revzi, a provider of point-of-sale hardware and software for restaurants, said it is now handling annual transaction volume exceeding $2 billion, doubling the volume of a year ago.
  • Payments provider TouchSuite named Jeffrey Fortney senior vice president of business development and partnerships. Fortney is a former executive at Clearent LLC.
