BofA’s 608 Patents in 2022 And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 2/9/23

  • Bank of America Corp. said the 608 patents it received in 2022 was a record number and was 19% more than in 2021, with grants covering areas such as mobile banking and payments, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other technologies.
  • Kasheesh, a digital payments platform than enables consumers to split payments for online purchases across multiple credit and debit cards, said its investment total has reached $8.5 million.
  • The Digital Dollar Project said it will hold a series of roundtables with leading universities on the subject of privacy protections for a U.S. central bank digital currency (CBDC).
  • Priority Technology Holdings Inc. said its accounts payable service has been integrated into IQ BackOffice, an accounting services provider.
  • Integrated payments provider EngageSmart Inc. said it had $83.9 million in fourth quarter 2022 revenue, a 36.2% increase from $61.6 million in the year prior quarter. It posted a profit of $6.7 million for the quarter, a reversal from a $946,000 loss. For the full year, EngageSmart had revenue of $303.9 million, a 40.5% increase from $216.3 million. Its net income of $20.6 million reversed a $9 million loss in 2021.
  • Payments firm i3 Verticals Inc. reported first quarter revenue of $86 million, a 16% increase from $74 million in the 2021 fiscal first quarter ended Dec. 31. It had a profit of $5.8 million in the latest quarter, a reversal from a $755,000 loss the year prior.
  • Payments provider Corserv promoted Anil Goyal to chief executive. A Corserv cofounder, Goyal was named president in 2020.
  • Infinicept, a provider of technology for embedded payments, appointed Anne-Jeanette LeBell chief technology officer, a new office for the company. Most recently she was a cofounder of the fintech BankShift, and before that was in technology roles at Capital One.
  • Visa Inc. appointed Chris Clark to chairman of its Asia Pacific region, with Stephen Karpin succeeding Clark as regional president for the area. Both appointments are effective April 1. Clark has been regional president for 10 years.
