CanPay Notes $500 Million in Legal Payments and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 3/18/22

  • Cannabis-payments platform CanPay said it has passed half a billion dollars in transactions, processing for more than 800 merchant locations in 31 in states.
  • A cryptocurrency-investment platform called BitStore introduced a Mastercard-branded prepaid card that allows users to make payments at merchants with their crypto assets. Processing is handled by Alchemy Pay.
  • Payments provider PayTrace Inc. announced it was recently acquired by North American Bancard. Terms were not disclosed.
  • Payments provider RoadSync launched RoadSync Advance, aimed at easing payment of over-the-road fees for truckers.
  • A survey of 118 digital-marketing and e-commerce executives indicates the majority plan to launch or expand a loyalty program this year. The survey from the Commerce Experience Collective, an association for e-commerce best practices, also indicates investments in personalization, navigation, and search are more important than cryptocurrency acceptance.
  • By contrast, a shopping and payments app called nate said it is expanding payment options this year to include crypto wallets.
  • A startup crypto exchange called Anchex raised $1 million in what it says is the biggest crypto investment round so far in the United States. The company is now worth $5 million, up tenfold since July 2021.
  • Payments security provider PCI Pal said restaurant group Fridays UK will use the PCI Pal Agent Assist service for PCI compliance with telephone-based card payments.
  • The Brink’s Co. appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer Mark Eubanks president and chief executive officer, effective May 6. The current CEO, Doug Pertz, will move into the executive chairman position. Brink’s has been working with merchant processors to digitize cash acceptance at merchant locations.
