Card Spending up 5.9% in 2022 And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 1/11/23

  • Total card spending per household was up 5.9% year-over-year in 2022, according to new data from the Bank of America Institute.
  • Kubra, which provides a payment network enabling consumers to pay bills with cash at retailers, said retailer Rite Aid joined its network, the 19th to do so.
  • Blaze, a point-of-sale platform for cannabis dispensaries and delivery services, said it will acquire Tymber, an e-commerce provider for cannabis retailers. Terms were not disclosed.
  • EngageSmart said the City of Port St. Lucie, Fla., is using its InvoiceCloud service to provide a digital billing, engagement, and billing system for its utility customers.
  • The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau proposed a rule to establish a public registry of supervised nonbanks’ terms and conditions. Organizations that could be subject to this rule include payday lenders, consumer reporting entities, and consumer debt collection firms.
  • Former Mastercard and Shopping.com executive Dan Ciporin has been appointed to the board of directors of Kraken, a cryptocurrency platform.
  • Digital-payments platform Sionic named former InComm executive Matthew Watson chief technology officer.
  • John Kristel is taking over as interim chief executive of Stax Payments, a payments-technology provider. He is an operating partner with Greater Sum Ventures, a controlling investor in Stax. Kristel succeeds outgoing founders Suneera Madhani and Sal Rehmetullah.
  • Fraud prevention provider Forter named Ozge Tuncel Ozcan chief customer officer. Ozcan previously worked at Instabase, an AI-based automation platform.
  • Payments and technology provider Entrust named Harini Gokul chief customer officer. She joined Entrust after stints at Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Corp.
