Cardtronics Secures More CTA Locations and other Digital Transactions News briefs

ATM deployer Cardtronics Inc. reached a new agreement with the Chicago Transit Authority under which it will place almost 40 new ATMs at CTA passenger stations, replacing machines already at those stations, and install more machines at additional stations. The move, which expands on an agreement reached with the CTA in 2013, increases the fleet of Cardtronics-managed ATMs in the CTA system from 45 to more than 80. The CTA is the country’s second-largest public transit network.

Starbucks Corp. reportedly had $1.2 billion loaded onto its prepaid cards and mobile app as of the first quarter, according to Standard & Poor’s research for MarketWatch.

Merchant processor Intrix Technology Inc. was selected as the preferred provider of credit card processing for the Georgia Cemetery Association.

Identity-management technology provider Acuant Inc. acquired AssureTec Technologies, a developer of identity document authentication and identity-verification services; terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The city of Dysart, Iowa, is now accepting electronic payments from citizens via a new processing service called PayPort. Managed by Iowa Interactive LLC, the system accepts payments via card or automated clearing house online, over the phone, or in person.

• Research from FICO, an analytic software firm, found that 83% of consumers aged 25 to 34, also known as Millennials, use credit cards. Seventy-seven percent of this group said they are “very likely” to continue using credit cards over the next five years.
