JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Chase Pay mobile-payments service has added an order-ahead feature that relies on functionality developed by LevelUp, a Boston-based mobile-payments and mobile-loyalty company.
The new feature is available today for Chase Pay users at quick-service restaurants in Boston and will be usable at QSRs nationwide in “coming months,” the bank says in a news release issued Thursday morning. The order-ahead feature allows users to pay on their phones when they order or later when they pick up their food. Payment in the store will work with quick-response (QR) code scanners deployed by LevelUp as well as scanners branded by Chase Pay.
Chase Pay users can also access offers available at participating locations that apply automatically at checkout. “The loyalty factor in the app is what’s really cool,” a Chase spokesperson tells Digital Transactions News. “Merchants can customize that offer.”
The deal with Chase Pay could give a lift to LevelUp, a startup founded in 2008, just as smart phones were beginning to appear in the U.S. market. “LevelUp is thrilled to be working with Chase to help their customers order ahead and pay at thousands of popular restaurants,” Seth Priebatsch, chief executive of the company and its founder, said in a statement.
Chase Pay’s deal with LevelUp follows its debut at Starbucks outlets and Best Buy Co. Inc. stores, announced last month.
