Contactless Payments To Surge And Other Digital Transactions News briefs from 9/25/23

  • The number of digital transactions globally will rise 12% in 2024 to cross the 1-trillion mark, Juniper Research forecasts. Near-field communication (NFC) payments, otherwise known as tap-and-pay, will grow fastest, at 30%, followed by digital ticketing (19%), according to Juniper.
  • The Canada-based commerce platform Shopify will enable payments for India-based e-commerce merchants directly on the merchants’ sites, working with India’s Cashfree Payments service, the companies announced. Previously, onsite payments for merchants on Shopify’s platform were available only in the U.S. market.
  • The cryptocurrency-based payments platform Wirex announced its plans to incorporate so-called Web3 payments, or payments based on a new form of the Internet that includes blockchain technology.
  • RocketFuel Inc., a blockchain-based payments processor, announced an agreement to support cryptocurrency payments for merchants in Latin America that rely on the AvecPay e-commerce technology.
  • Idex Biometrics ASA, a Norway-based provider of fingerprint-identification technologies frequently deployed in payments programs, appointed John T. Kurtzwell chief financial officer, succeeding interim CFO Eileen Wynne. Kurtzwell comes to Idex from a CFO position at Metabolon, a U.S.-based life-science company.
