DoorDash Expands Its SNAP/EBT Program to More Than 10,000 Stores

DoorDash Inc. has added 13 grocery-store chains to its platform that will accept electronic benefits transfer and SNAP cards for payment. The list of grocers—which includes, ACME Markets, Food City, Hy-Vee, Jewel-Osco, Kings Food Markets, Pavilions, Randalls, Shaw’s, Sprouts Farmers Market, Star Market, Stater Bros. Markets, Tom Thumb, and Vons—comprises more than 6,000 locations.

The addition of the new grocers brings the total number of grocery-store locations in DoorDash’s SNAP/EBT program to more than 10,000.

Consumers can use their SNAP/EBT cards to pay for groceries that are eligible through the government-run benefits programs. Since EBT cards were added as a payment option last year, more than 1.1 million consumers have added SNAP/EBT cards to their DoorDash app. Grocery chains participating in the program since 2023 include ALDI, Albertsons, Safeway, Meijer, and more than 130 7-Eleven stores.

Partnering with grocers to accept SNAP/EBT cards for orders placed through its platform has enabled DoorDash to service consumers in food deserts, which are urban areas where there are few, if any, grocers that offer affordable fresh food. More than one in six SNAP deliveries on DoorDash have been made to consumers living in food deserts.

In addition, 49% of SNAP deliveries on DoorDash have been made to consumers living in low-income communities, while 28% of SNAP deliveries on DoorDash have been made to consumers living in census tracts with a higher rate of seniors than the national average (16%). Some 47% of SNAP deliveries on DoorDash have been made to consumers living in census tracts with higher rates of people with disabilities than the national average (12.7%), DoorDash says.

“Whether it’s delivering SNAP-eligible groceries or charitable food to people experiencing food insecurity, we’re excited to continue to provide new ways for everyone to access food through DoorDash,” San Francisco-based DoorDash says in a statement.

To incentivize EBT recipients to purchase groceries through its platform, DoorDoor is making its DashPass subscription service free to new subscribers for the first two months. DashPass allows consumers to place orders through restaurants with no delivery fee on orders of $15 or more. The offer is good through year’s end.

DoorDash launched on-demand grocery delivery in 2020.
