Consumers using SNAP and electronic benefits transfer payments at a U.S. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. store now have broader access to the services through DoorDash Inc., a third-party delivery service.
Announced Wednesday, the deal means Walgreens shoppers can use their SNAP/EBT payments card at any Walgreens, regardless of where they live, DoorDash says. The DoorDash platform enables SNAP customers to make purchases directly from Walgreens. SNAP is an acronym for Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food benefits to low-income families. Walgreens will offer more than 4,000 SNAP-eligible products for delivery, on average within an hour. Walgreens accepts SNAP/EBT in person at most locations.
Earlier this year, San Francisco-based DoorDash surpassed 10,000 stores that participate in its SNAP/EBT program. In addition to Walgreens, other stores in the program include Aldi, Albertsons, Meijer, and Vons, among others.
DoorDash added SNAP/EBT payment support in 2023. Since then, more than 1.1 million consumers have added their SNAP/EBT cards to their DoorDash accounts, it says. DoorDash said nearly all of its monthly active users have access to a SNAP-participating store in the United States.
DoorDash is one of 19 SNAP e-commerce platform providers approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which manages the program.
