With small and medium businesses looking to establish or expand their e-commerce presence, Wix.com Ltd., an Israeli-based provider of cloud-based Web-development services, is adding Skrill, a digital wallet and payments gateway operated by Paysafe Group Holdings Ltd., to its platform.
Integrating Skrill will enable Wix merchants to accept credit and debit cards, as well as local and alternative payment methods, and settle those transactions in more than 40 currencies, Wix and Paysafe say. Alternative payment methods include such Paysafe services as Rapid Transfer, PaySafe’s online bank transfer solution, and Paysafecash, the company’s online cash solution.
Wix’s software-as-a-service platform, which allows businesses to create, manage and grow an online presence, has more than 200 million users. Wix’s platform allows merchants to create HTML5 Web sites and mobile sites through the use of online drag-and-drop tools.
“More and more [small businesses] are moving their businesses online with Wix-powered Web sites, and they need a payment solution like Skrill for the Website’s checkout, allowing them to ultimately monetize their site by converting user traffic into consumers of their products and services,” a Paysafe spokesperson says by email.
Paysafe reported last month its first-quarter digital-wallet volume, which includes Skrill, came to $4.6 billion, down 25% from $6.2 billion for the same period in 2020. Wallet revenues totaled $94.9 million, down 13% from $108.5 million. Overall, Paysafe reported $27.7 billion in first-quarter payments volume, up 8% from the same period last year earlier this month.
