Eye on Gift Cards: InComm Nets Distribution Deal; Blackhawk Debuts Hawk Direct

As gift cards continue to garner great consumer interest—they are the most sought-after gift this holiday season, says the National Retail Federation—two gift card providers announced moves to boost their respective market shares.

In an exclusive deal, Atlanta-based InCommwill provide grocer cooperative Wakefern Food Corp. with a gift card and prepaid program. The 50 member companies that own and operate Wakefern have more than 350 retail grocery stores.

Meanwhile, Pleasanton, Calif.-based Blackhawk Network Holdings Inc. launched Hawk Direct, a service to enable brands and retailers to manage their own gift cards, promotions, and loyalty programs. Blackhawk also debuted HawkCommerce.com, a Web site to help merchants offer and manage gift card programs.

Among the services available from Hawk Direct are fraud management and integrated marketing tools. Merchants also can use an e-commerce platform that can be branded and integrated into an existing site to support customer promotions and sales for physical and electronic gift cards. It also supports corporate bulk purchases and offers iOS and Android mobile shopping for gift cards.
